Sergeant Major Richard Leo Wilkinson, U.S. Army (Ret.), age 79, died on Saturday, 11 April 2020, in Naples, Florida, after a long illness.

Due to coronavirus restrictions last year services were postponed until now. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at Rowley Cemetery, 2146 290th Street, at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021. Family, friends, and those wishing to pay their respects are welcome at the service. Pastor Susan Higdon of the Rowley First United Methodist Church will officiate. Arrangements are being coordinated by the Reiff Family Center at Independence.

Richard was born on 30 November 1940, in Independence, to parents Raymond Herbert and Thelma Jane (Fagle) Wilkinson. He attended Independence High School and graduated in 1958. He married the former Janice Faye Basquin of Rowley in 1959 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She preceded him in death.
