Deanna S. Schommer, 57, of Jesup, IA, died on Saturday December 19, 2020 at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.

Deanna was born on June 14, 1963, in Independence, IA the daughter of William P. and Sharon R. (Nutt) Danehy. She attended the Independence Community Schools and went on to study at the Young Cosmetology College in Waterloo, IA. Deanna worked for many years detailing cars for Ray’s Auto, and at the Super Value in Independence. In 2000, she took a job at the Walmart in Independence. She spent nineteen years working with the staff at Walmart, and they became a second family to her. On April 29, 2016 she married Gary L. Schommer in Independence. They made their home together in Jesup, IA.

She enjoyed spending time outside taking care of her flower gardens. Gary would take her with him on many benefit motorcycle rides throughout the state, and they enjoyed going to concerts together. Deanna’s favorite time of the year was Christmas. She couldn’t wait to see her family together for the holidays. She loved spending time with them and spoiling her grandbabies.

Deanna is survived by her husband, Gary Schommer, Jesup, IA, her children Jenni (Chad) Roth, Independence, IA, and Chelsi (James) Masteller, Jesup, IA, four grandchildren, Hannah and Harper Roth, and Zoey and Lucy Masteller. A brother William (Carol) Danehy Jr., Muscoda, WI, two sisters, Sue Danehy, Aurora, IA, and Melinda (Kim) Tielebein, Waterloo, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Sharon Danehy, and a daughter, Brittany M. Schommer.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 PM on Wednesday December 23, 2020 at the Reiff Family Center in Independence, IA. Visitation will be from 2 PM until services on Wednesday.
