KAYSER WELTER FERCH FISHER THORNTON KAY

David J. Kayser, 77, of Independence, IA died at his home in rural Independence on Friday December 18, 2020.

David was born on April 16, 1943, in Independence, IA the son of Albert N. and Leona M. (Welter) Kayser. He was a 1961 graduate of St. John’s Catholic High School in Independence. He started to work at Greenly’s Moline Farm Store. He was a skilled mechanic and was quickly promoted to be the Parts Manager. David enlisted into the United States Army Reserve on June 22, 1964. On February 6, 1965 he married Rosemary G. Ferch at the St. John’s Catholic Church and they made their home together in Independence. In 1966 he took a job as a welder for CMC in Waterloo, IA. He started in 1972 at John Deere as a welder and in assembly. He was happy at John Deere and was proud of his work. He put in thirty years and retired in 2002. David was active member for many years of the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus in Independence.

For 18 years, he and Rosemary spent their winters in Rio Grands Valley, TX. They had developed a close group of friends there that they consider family. They enjoyed their get together, and game nights. He was a member of a gun club in Texas and developed many friends and stories from his time spent there. And many memories were made on their trips to South Padre Island, TX.

David loved the outdoors. He loved to go for walks in the timber behind his home and spent many days deer hunting. Working with his hands kept him busy during his retirement, he took up woodworking and became skilled in the art of Intarsia.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Rosemary Kayser, Independence, IA, his children, Rebecca (Vince) Bauer-Fisher, Waverly, IA, Timothy (Jennifer) Kayser, Norwich, CT, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two brothers, Ronald (Jayne) Kayser, Louisville, KY, and Steven (Gloria) Kayser, Washington State, a sister, Mary (Patrick) Thornton, Fort Mill, SC, his sister-in-laws, Ann, Mary Kay, and Judy Kayser, and many nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Leona Kayser, four brothers, Richard, Eugene, Paul, and Dale Kayser.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday December 23, 2020 at the Reiff Family Center in Independence, IA. Burial will be held at the St. John’s Cemetery in Independence. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM on Tuesday December 22, 2020 at the Reiff Family Center.
