Velma E. Morey, 89, of Hazleton died on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Lexington Estates in Independence, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 24, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hazleton with Pastor Dianna Bass officiating.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church on Friday.
Inurnment: Hazleton (Fontana) Cemetery, Hazleton, Iowa at a later date.
Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, is assisting the family.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Hazleton, Iowa or Cedar Valley Hospice at Independence, Iowa.

Velma Elaine Morey was born October 21, 1928 in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of George and Ada Johnston. She was united in marriage to Duane Morey, October 31, 1945 at the United Methodist Church in Fairbank, Iowa. They lived, worked and raised their family together on the family farm southeast of Hazleton. Through those years they enjoyed many activities and traveling with their special friends, Miles and Sally Gardner. Velma and Duane spent 28 years wintering in Dade City, Florida where she enjoyed golfing, playing cards and painting landscapes.
Velma was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hazleton where she was active in all aspects of the church, especially the chicken and biscuit luncheon and quilting. She enjoyed playing cards with her Thursday afternoon friends.
Velma is survived by her three 3 children: Larry (Peggy)Morey of DeWitt, Iowa, Jerry(Judy)Morey of Hazleton, Iowa and Darilyn (Robert) Ruse of Kendallville, Indiana: 7 Grandchildren;
19 Great Grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a Sister-In-Law: Marilyn(Dave)Appelman of Lewisburg, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Step-mother “Aunt” Cora; her husband Duane of 62 years; Granddaughter: Sheryl Morey; Sister; Alice (Pete) Schulmeister; Brothers; Lee Johnston and Glen (Leah)Johnston.
