Caryl B. McClain, 91, of rural Fairbank, Iowa died at her home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday morning, January 20, 2019.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein with Rev. Sandra Burroughs officiating.
Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday and for one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home.
Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, rural Westgate, Iowa.
Memorial Fund: Camp Courageous and Cedar Valley Hospice.

Caryl Bertha Kohls was born on December 10, 1927 in Clermont, Iowa the daughter of Anton & Mary Jane(Hills)Kohls. She attended Clermont Country School and graduated from West Union High School. She continued her education at Gates Business College in Waterloo. Caryl moved to Arizona for a year where she worked as a secretary. She returned to Iowa and worked as a secretary at Big Gain Feed in West Union. Caryl then moved to Waterloo where she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone.
Caryl was united in marriage to Robert Evon McClain on July 14, 1962 at the First Baptist Church in Waterloo. They made their home in Oelwein and Caryl continued to work for the telephone company until they started their family. Caryl and Robert were blessed with three children, William, Karen and Mary Lynn. They moved to the family farm west of Oelwein in 1967 where Caryl lived for many years until finally settling north of Fairbank.
Caryl was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Oran, the Jolly Circle Club, the Republican Central Committee. She worked the election polls and, in her retirement, she was a volunteer at the Independence Senior Site. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, sewing, flower gardening, playing the piano and spending time with her family.

2 Daughters: Karen(David)Wagg of Stanton & Mary Lynn(John)Wyckoff of Vinton; 12 Grandchildren: Elizabeth(Josh)Kempf, Nicholas McClain, Abigail McClain (fiancée: Taylan Sauerbrei),Taylor Wagg (Sean Kaiser),Shelby Wagg (fiancée: Marcus Taylor), Kimber Wagg (fiancée: Phil Worcester)
Logan Wagg (David Sorensen),Bryce Hagenow, Evan Hagenow, Faith Hagenow,Brok Wyckoff & Kealee Wyckoff; 2 Great Grandchildren:William & Leo Kempf; Sister: Marilyn Jorgenson of West Union;
