Ava Marie Stone, 86, passed away at the Oelwein Heath Care Center on November 21, 2017. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and on Saturday, Nov. 25 from 10:00 A.M. until services at Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont. A celebration of Ava’s life will continue with services at the church on Saturday, November 25 at 11:00 am with burial immediately following at Campton Cemetery.

Ava Marie was born on March 15, 1931 to Harold and Mabel Tromblee Dodge. She grew up on a farm outside Lamont and attended Lamont School graduating in 1948. Ava went on to Iowa State Teachers College and taught school in Lansing, Iowa. She married Robert Stone in 1951. They raised their three children Cathie, Deb and Bruce on a Century Farm outside Lamont that had been in Ava’s family for over 100 years.

Ava was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church her entire life. She taught Sunday School for 13 years, was a member of the Eunice Circle and a member of the SPRC. Ava worked at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home for 13 years. After their retirement she and Bob were instrumental in the renovation and operation of the Common Grounds coffee shop in Lamont. After Bob’s death Ava moved to Strawberry Point and then to Parkview Assisted Living in Fairbank. Ava always had a book and reading was a big part of her life.

Ava is survived by her three children Cathie (Charles) Schmidtke, Deb (Randy) Noecker and Bruce (Suzi) Stone, five grandchildren, Dawn Ralston, Justin Stone, Nicholas (Melissa) Stone, Betsy Norman, Maggie Norman and three step grandchildren, Kirsten Noecker, Kari (Mike) Wolfson and Kylie Noecker. Ava was also blessed with three great grandsons, Steven, Macoy and Bobby and two great granddaughters Anna and Alleesa. Ava was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, her husband and great granddaughter Harlee Stone.

Memorials may be directed to the family in Ava’s memory.
