Terrance Eugene Gaffney, 71 of Lamont, Iowa entered peacefully into his eternal rest on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at his home.
Terrance “Terry” Gaffney was born on November 7, 1946 in Independence, Iowa, the son of Martin Leonard and Geneva Franck Gaffney. He grew up on the farm near Winthrop where he attended school and graduated with the East Buchanan Class of 1964. Terry worked for a time with Paul T. Quint doing local construction work along with other odd jobs.
Terry was united in marriage to Nancy Grapes on February 4, 1967 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Winthrop. To this union were born five children: Christopher, Jeffrey (Jake), Jennifer, Jamie, and Benjamin.
Terry was known for his incredible work ethic, often working two or three jobs at the same time. He worked in Cedar Rapids at Allis- Chalmers which later became Harnischfeger’s. At the same time, he was also working for Louis B Gallery as a large equipment operator. Eventually, he went into partnership with Earl Weston Quarries in Lamont. In 1976, that became Gaffney Quarries which he operated until his death.
Terry loved dancing with his wife Nancy, boating and entertaining friends at their home in Guttenburg, and recently snow-birding in Florida. He was always going above and beyond to help a friend or family member.Terry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Serge “Butch” Gaffney.
Survivors include his wife Nancy of Lamont; his five children: Christopher (Cindy) Gaffney of Lamont; Jake Gaffney of Center Point; Jennifer (Chris) Pruett of John’s Island, South Carolina; Jamie (Jennie) Gaffney of Independence, Missouri; Benjamin (Mary) Gaffney of Altoona. Fifteen grandchildren: Ryan (Kelsey), Jonathan, and Hannah; Cody (Haley), Kennedy, Sergei, Noah, and Sophie; Turner; Luke, Shea, and Anna; Henry, Avery, and Sloane; and three great grandchildren. His five sisters: Sandy Kress of Garland, Texas; Cheryl (Jon) Halford of Independence; Becky Gaffney of Quasqueton; Suzette (Herb) Kremer of Independence; and Barb (Chris) Lunan of Runnels; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 13, 2017 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Winthrop with Father David Beckman officiating. Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Ryan, Jack, Cody, Kennedy, Hannah, Sergei, Noah, and Luke. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Winthrop.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 2 PM until 7 PM and until 10 AM Monday at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop. The Fawcett Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
