Donna Lillie, 96, of Independence, Iowa entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa.

Donna Mildred Arnold was born October 5, 1920 near Winthrop, Iowa, the daughter of Dale James and Adelaide Carolyn Martin Arnold. She attended Byron Center #8 school through eighth grade, then Winthrop High School graduating with the class of 1937. She worked as a nursing aide at Peoples Hospital in Independence, then Presbyterian Hospital in Waterloo. She completed her education at St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids where she received her R.N. degree.

Donna was united in marriage to Cpl. Glenn A. Lillie on September 8, 1944. They lived in the Winthrop area, Denver, CO; Ottumwa, IA; Cedar Falls, Ames, and Waterloo, Iowa until June 1956. They moved to St. Paul, MN in 1956 and lived in Mendota Heights, MN. After Glenn’s death she moved back to Iowa and lived at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glenn, three brothers: Donald, Howard and Melvin Arnold; and one sister Marguerite Keegan.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Pastor Scott Meador officiating. Music by Mary Schubich.

Honorary bearers will be: Don Kass, Teresa Kass, Carol Schweitzer, Lynn Henkle, Carol Henkle, Colleen Stohr, and Dorthea Stiefel.

Casketbearers will be nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Church from 10 AM until service time on Saturday. Interment will be Monday, Feb. 27 at 11:35 AM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
