Laura N. Jones was born in Mt Morris, Oct. 14, 1869. She was the daughter of Henry S. and Malinda J. Jones. She was married to Chester C. Jenkins in Oregon in 1876. In 1883 they moved to Winthrop, Iowa, residing near here most of their married life. They removed to Hudson, Iowa, about three years ago. Eight children were born to this union, one dying in infancy. Mrs. R. B. Halleck, of Columbus, Ohio; Oliver, of Mason City; Mrs. Florence Hawkins, of Aurora; Fred, of Mason City; Gurney, of Waterloy, Richard and Fay, at home. She leaves eleven grandchildre, two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Meister, of Independence and Mrs. Coffin, of Rockford, Ill., three brothers- John, of Minnesota, Rufus, of Winthrop, and Henry, of New Orleans. She united with the Congregational church many years ago and still remains a member. She was always a kind, loving mother and friend and will be greatly missed by her family and a large circle of friends. She was a sufferer from goitre, and died at Waterloo, Ia., Sept, 11, 1914, at the Presbyterian hospital, where she had gone for an operation for relief from goitre. The funeral services were held at the Congregational church at Winthrop, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Clyde S. Holland, interment being made in Fairview beside the remains of her husband, who preceded her in death only a few months. The sympathy of all goes out to the sorrowing relatives in their great loss.
