Delores J. Gerstenberger, 77, of Hazleton, Iowa died on Saturday afternoon, May 28, 2011 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein, Iowa;

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, Iowa; Officiating: Rev. Harry Koelker; Visitation: from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein where there will be a Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Parish Scripture Service at 7:00 P.M.; Interment: St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Hazleton, Iowa

In lieu of flowers, memorials be given in her name to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life

Delores Jeanne Martin was born on August 18, 1933 at Aurora, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Hilda (Werner) Martin. She graduated from Stanley High School at Stanley, Iowa in 1951. Following graduation Delores was employed at the Oelwein State Bank as a teller and bookkeeper until she was united in marriage to Gus Gerstenberger on July 20, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamont, Iowa. She farmed with her husband on the family century farm southeast of Hazleton their entire married life. Delores was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hazleton and currently at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Rita # 321 and the Farm Bureau. She enjoyed reading, visiting with friends and most of all singing. Delores was a lifelong vocalist in her community and church and an inspiration to many for her kind works. Her greatest enjoyment was being able to see her grandchildren growing up and being close to her family.

Delores is survived by: 3 Sons—Daniel Martin Gerstenberger of Hazleton, Iowa John Michael (Angy) Gerstenberger of Hazleton, Iowa William Paul Gerstenberger of Oelwein, Iowa 6 Grandchildren—Shannon, Meghan, Julianne, Allison, Samantha and Danielle Sister—Betty Mackey of Mason City, Iowa and many Friends.

She was preceded in death by her Parents—Husband (Gus Gerstenberger on December 26, 1989)
