Delmon Sherman Destival
(October 14, 1921 - March 2, 2013)

Delmon S. Destival, 91, of Hazleton, Iowa died on Saturday evening, March 2, 2013 at the Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein.

Funeral Service: 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, Hazleton, with Pastor Duane Olsen officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, Iowa. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Delmon Sherman Destival was born October 14, 1921 near Hazleton, Iowa the son of Louis Delmond and Ella May (Waters) Destival. He attended a one-room country school then graduated from Hazleton High School in 1939. Delmon married June Janice Jensen on February 27, 1944 at the First Presbyterian Church in Oelwein. Del and June farmed near Hazleton, raising their six children. They moved to an acreage south of Hazleton opening Del’s Market selling sweet corn and other vegetables.

Del was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Masons, Eastern Star, Volunteer Fireman, and Farm Bureau. His hobbies were working crossword puzzles and watching sports like the Hawkeyes on TV. Del was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed by all.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, June; children, Dick (Sandy), Lynn Haven, Fla., Diane (Gary) King, Hazleton & Yantis, Tx., Donna (Larry)Cole, Superior, Ws., Darlene (Don) Worden, Savanna, Il., David (Ginny), Jefferson, Ia., Denise (Garry), Teague, Geneseo, Il.; 20 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; sisters, Lavada Dowd, Waterloo, Janice Schoon, Marion, and Judy (Dan) Gnade, Manteca, Ca., sister-in-laws, Chuckie Fox, Betty Jensen, & Shirley Jensen all of Oelwein.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother at birth, one sister, Luella Betts, one grandchild, two great grandchildren, and six brother-in-laws.
