Joseph Edmund Gallery was born May 11, 1934 near Winthrop, Iowa, the son of Francis and Stella Agnes Decker Gallery. He attended local country schools and then Winthrop High School where he graduated with the class of 1952. He served his country during the Korean Conflict from January 1956 until his honorable discharge in Oct. 1957.

Joe was united in marriage to Mary Jane Myers on April 10, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lamont, Iowa. To this union were born seven children: Daniel, Dianne, Jane, Jolayne, Victoria, Krista, and James. Living on the farm, Gallery Drainage was his passion for many years in Buchanan and surrounding Counties.

Joe entered into his eternal rest on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at his home east of Winthrop, at the age of 81.

He was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson Luke Joseph Kress, sister Mary Hayes, and infant sister Phyllis.

Survivors include his wife Mary Jane of rural Winthrop; seven children (two sons and five daughters): Daniel (Wendy Harrison) Gallery of Winthrop; Dianne Henderson of Independence; Jane (Barrie) Ernst of Cedar Rapids; Jolayne (Dan”Boone”) Kress of Winthrop; Victoria (Brett) Nelson of West Des Moines; Krista (David “Bergy”) Bergfeld of Winthrop; and James (Christie Zeien) Gallery of Winthrop; fifteen grandchildren: Elliott, Alex, Ethan, Estelle, Ashley, Blair, Matt, Adam, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Allyssa, Nick, Blake, Alayna, and Kaylee; three step grandchildren: Morgan, Drew, and Zoe; fourteen great grandchildren: Meirek, Maebry, Mavriek, Kamryn, Conrad, Wilhelm, Waylon, Alyvia, Caroline, Henry, Parker, Owen, Kaeden, and Gabriella; three brothers: Louie (Faye Ann) Gallery of Winthrop, Vince (Lee) Gallery of Shafter, CA; Mike (Mary) Gallery of Masonville; one sister Shirley (Loras) Schlichte of Manchester; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at I.C. Catholic Church in Masonville, Iowa with Father Joseph Schneider officiating.

Interment with military rites at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Masonville, Iowa. Casketbearers will be grandsons: Matthew Kress, Adam Kress, Elliott Henderson, Taylor Nelson, Nick Bergfeld, Blake Gallery, Alex Henderson, and Ethen Henderson. Honorary bearers will be: Ray Fuller, Pat Decker, Steve Decker, Jim Decker, Bob Decker, Jeanne Griswold, Dennis Sperfslage, and Dean Schommer.

The Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation services is assisting the family with servives. Friends may call from 2 PM until 7 PM Friday and until 9:30 AM Saturday at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop. A scripture service will be held at 2 PM Friday at Fawcett’s.
