Gene Raymond Berry, 76, of rural Stanley passed away on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein surrounded by his loved ones.

Visitation will be from 4-7PM on Tuesday May 27, 2014 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home. There will not be a public funeral service held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gene’s family.

Gene was born on December 29, 1937 in Arlington to parents Raymond and Helen (Walters) Berry. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1956. Gene was united in marriage to Patricia Yearous on January 8, 1958 in Maynard. They had four children: Chris, Tina, Melody and Travis.

Gene operated Berry’s Salvage Yard in rural Stanley for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting, antiques and auctions, selling on eBay, quilting with Pat and trips to the casinos in Waterloo, Dubuque and Tama. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Left to celebrate Gene’s life is his children: Chris (Julie) Berry of Oelwein, Tina (Chad) Rodas of Strawberry Point, Melody (Bart) Thein of Dallas, GA, and Travis (Carrie) Berry of Maynard; his grandchildren: Chad, Justin, Molly, Tara, Megan, Amanda, Brittany, Jerad, Audrey, James, and Jake; 17 great grandchildren; his brothers: Jerry (Donna) Berry of Bonnieville, KY and Wayne Berry of Ankeny; many nieces, nephews and friends.

In death, Gene has rejoined his parents, his brother Larry Berry, and his wife Pat (2012).
