JESUP-John J. Knebel, 74, of rural Jesup, died at home Thursday March 27, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 23, 1922, in New Hampton, son of Charles Ambrose and Mary Ellen Dolmage Knebel. He married Mary Rosalie Ortner on April 4, 1959, near Dunkerton.

Mr. Knebel served with the U.S. Air Force. He farmed for several years and in 1965 began employment with Deere & Co., Waterloo, retiring in 1983.

Survived by: his wife, a daughter, Susan Rommann of Jesup; a son, Larry of New Hartford; two grandsons; five stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Melvin and Leo, both of Waterloo; and two sisters, Dorothy Jungen of Raymond and Mary Smith of Sumner.

Preceded in death by: five brothers, Ambrose, Earl, Ralph and Elmo, and Paul in infancy; and two sisters, Edith LeVenz and Rita Weber.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 2:30 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 3 p.m. parish rosary and a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials: may be directed to St. Athanasius Church or Hospice of Buchanan County.
