Melvin A. Schares, Jr., 54, of Independence, Iowa died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at his home near Independence.

Melvin was born on February 9, 1960 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Melvin A. and Norma L. (Weber) Schares. He attended the Gilbertville Schools and was a 1978 graduate of the Jesup High School, Jesup, IA. Following his graduation he became employed on Road Crews for twenty years then with Youngblut Construction, and most recently he did metal recycling.

He is survived by two children; Curtis (Samantha) Schares, Jesup, IA., and Kaitlynn Schares Safford, AZ, a grandson Adrian, his mother; Norma Schares, LaPorte City, IA., four sisters; Deb (Gary) Jacobsen, Jesup, IA, Lorie Schares, Huston, TX, Doris Schares, Marion, IA, Judy Schares, Waterloo, IA, and three brothers; John (Karla) Schares, Scott Schares, and Roger (Julie) Schares, all of Jesup, IA, a sister-ion-law Dorothy Mudline, Eddyville, IA, and a special friend Vickie.

He was preceded in death by his father Melvin A. Schares,Sr. a brother Cleo Schares

Private Memorial Services were held Sunday, April 20th, 2014 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, IA.
