Theresa K. Kremer, 96, of Independence, Iowa died Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center in Independence, Iowa.

Theresa was born on June 13, 1917, near LaPorte City, Iowa the daughter of Robert and Anna (Wagner) Wirtz. On January 25, 1940 she married Cletus J. Kremer in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Raymond, IA. The couple farmed in the Gilbertville and Jesup area until moving to Hazleton, Iowa in 1952. In 1962 the family moved to Independence. Theresa was employed as a dietary aid, with the Mental Health Institute in Independence for 15 years prior to her retirement.

She is survived by ten children; Eugene (Valerie) Kremer, Gardiner, MT., Kenneth (Therese) Kremer, Cedar Falls, IA., Patricia (Richard) Struble Beloit, KS., Larry (Carol) Kremer, Manchester, IA., Jerry Kremer, Marshalltown, IA., Raymond Kremer, Waterloo, IA., Janice Kremer, Independence, IA, Roger (Connie) Kremer, Ottumwa, IA., Connie (Dennis) Balk, Belmond, IA, and Norma (Jon) Jacobsen, Cedar Rapids, IA., twenty nine grandchildren, fifty two great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law; Brenda Kremer, Grinnell, IA., and a former daughter-in-law Rebecca Kremer, Marshalltown, IA., and a sister; Marie Siebel, Waterloo, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cletus in 2011, two sons; LeRoy and Ronald Kremer, a daughter and son-in-law; Carol and John Sheehan, six brothers; Nick, Herb, Irvine, Joe, Wilbur Wirtz, and a brother in infancy, and three sisters; Clara Simon, Leona Phillips, and Mildred Siebel

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, April 4th, 2014 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence with Rev. John Kremer officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 3 to 8 PM Thursday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
