Katherine M. Miller, 92, of Independence, Iowa and formerly of Oelwein, Iowa died on Monday evening, May 19, 2014 at her home in Independence, Iowa Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Oelwein, Iowa; Officiating: Rev. Tim Schoepf; Visitation: from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 9:30 A.M. on Friday at the church: Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in rural Oelwein, Iowa. Katherine Marie Swarts was born on July 31, 1921 in Aurora, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Amelia (Nehring) Swarts. She graduated from Aurora High School at Aurora, Iowa, in 1938. Katherine married Floyd Kline Miller on September 29, 1939 at the First Baptist Church parsonage in Oelwein, Iowa. She was a health aide and activity director at the Grandview Health Care Center and at Mercy Hospital both in Oelwein and also at MHI and Peoples Memorial Hospital both, in Independence. Katherine and Floyd spent many years wintering in Largo, Florida. She enjoyed antiques, gardening, dancing and basketball. Katherine loved the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Katherine is survived by her children: Larry Miller of Oelwein, Ia., Fred Miller of Independence, Ia. Steve (Janeen) Miller of Iowa City, Ia., Mary Kay Miller of Independence, Ia., and Kathleen (Ken) Carter of Largo, Florida 6 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Floyd K. Miller on December 21, 2004); 3 brothers; 3 sisters and a daughter-in-law (Marcia Miller).
