Larry John Thomas, 61, of Hazleton died Saturday, October 22, 2011.
Larry was born on February 13, 1950 in Oelwein to parents Bernard and Indamora (Kruse) Thomas. Larry attended Starmont Community School, graduating in 1968. He then served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 until 1974. Larry also graduated from The Colorado School of Gunsmithing.
On Nov. 21 , 1981 Larry was united in marriage to Debbie Kisner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hazleton. They later divorced.
Larry was a machinist at ABCO in Oelwein for many years and at Henderson Products in Manchester. He was a member of the American Legion Dean Harkin Post 219 in Arlington and the Disabled American Veterans. Larry enjoyed going fishing, golfing, and collecting stamps and coins. He celebrated every Iowa Hawkeyes football and New York Yankees victory.
Left to celebrate Larry’s life are his daughters: Contessa Thomas of Canton, OH, Miranda (Josh) Crawford of Canton, OH, and Andrea (Bob) Iseton of Oelwein; his brothers: Bernie (Mary) Thomas of Oelwein and Dan (Laura) Thomas of Oxnard, CA; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.
In death, Larry has rejoined his parents and his brother Oren “Richard” Kruse.
Funeral Services for Larry will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 26 at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, October 25 at the funeral home as well. Larry will be laid to rest in Taylorsville Cemetery at Arlington.
