Obituary: Shirley E. Jensen, 81, of Independence, Iowa died Wednesday evening, October 5, 2011, at the West Village Care Center, Independence, Iowa.

Shirley was born on August 13, 1930, in Urbana, Iowa the daughter of Lawrence and Mabel (Wayson) Kleitsch. She was a 1948 graduate of Rowley High School, Rowley, Iowa and the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Shirley taught school in the Buchanan County Country Schools for several years. On May 29, 1951 she was married to Paul O. Jensen in St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence, Iowa where the family made their home.

She is survived by her husband; Paul Jensen, Independence, IA., four children; Jerry (Barb) Jensen, Nebraska City, NE., Jim (Cyndi) Jensen, Independence, IA., Jeff (Kathryn) Jensen, Independence, IA., and Diane (Jim) Dudley, Independence, IA., twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, five sisters; Dorothy Gannon, Ankeny, IA., Darlene Schrader, Madison, WI., Janet Kleitsch, Cedar Rapids, IA., Mary Lou Adams, Ankeny, IA., Phyllis Osterhaus, Ankeny, IA., and a brother; John Kleitsch, Ames, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Lavern Kleitsch, Russell Kleitsch, James Kleitsch, and a sister; Leita Mae Kleitsch.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 10th, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Independence with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence, IA. Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence where a rosary will be recited at 3 P.M. and a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Sunday.
