Hazel Irene Nelson, 78, died
Sept. 24 at Mercy Hospital,
Oeiwein.
She was born the daughter of
Charles and Ella Latham Nelson
on Nov. 17, 1894 at Hazleton. She
attended schools at Hazleton and
Anamosa, graduating from
Hazleton High School. After
graduating from Iowa State
Teachers College in Cedar Falls,
she taught school for 51 years.
The last 25 years of her teacher
career she taught school at
Denison. After retiring she
turned to Hazleton to make her
home permanently, where she
always spent her summers.
Surviving are her sister
Cathern Nelson, Hazleton and
numerous cousins. Memorial
services were held at the Trinity
United Methodist church in
Hazleton, Sept. 27 with the Rev.
Irving Arnold and the Rev.
James Olsen officiating. Burial
was in the Hazleton Cemetery,
Hazleton.
She was a member of the
Methodist church in Hazleton and
the Woman's Relief Corps.
