JESUP - Michael R. Wilson, 61, of Jesup, died Thursday, Jan. 27, at Allen Hospital.

He was born Feb. 23, 1949, in Iowa City, son of Merle R. Wilson and Dorothy M. Arends Wilson. He married Joanne Brown. They later divorced. He married Carol Joan Halley Hackbarth May 28, 1982, in Independence.

Mr. Wilson served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked in several fields including landscaping. He was employed at John Deere, served on Evansdale and Elk Run Heights Police Departments and was police chief in Elk Run Heights. He was a private investigator and employed in the maintenance department at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Falls. He was a member of Lord of the Harvest Lutheran Church in Fairbank.

Survived by: his wife, Carol; a daughter, Joanie (Jeff) Sherwood of Waterloo; two stepsons, Michael "Mick" (Jen) Hackbarth and Robert Hackbarth, both of Iowa Falls; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Merle (Vicki) of Jesup and Howard (Jeannine) of Evansdale; and two sisters, Marlene (Tracy) Mead of Evansdale and Bobbie Wilson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Donnie, Larry and Carl; and an infant sister.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at White Funeral Home, Jesup. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, The American Cancer Society and The Buchanan County Animal Shelter.
