Ronald E. Rau, 71, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Sunday evening, February 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mass of the Resurrection: 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, Iowa; Officiating: Rev. Harry Koelker.

Visitation: from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein where there will be a Parish Scripture Service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday. Interment: Oran Township Cemetery in rural Oelwein, Iowa.

A Memorial Fund has been established in his name

Ronald Eugene Rau was born on November 15, 1939 in rural Aurora, Iowa, the son of Clair David and Lillian Jane (Swarts) Rau.

He graduated from Hazleton High School at Hazleton, Iowa in 1958. Ronnie married Pauline Elizabeth Pond on April 15, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Hazleton, Iowa. He worked for the Chicago Great Western Railroad in Oelwein for 5 years and later farmed for 47 years in rural Oelwein retiring in 2008. He served in the Iowa National Guard. Ronnie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Oelwein Council # 1168, Farm Bureau, Cattleman’s Association, and the Hook-N-Liner Club. He enjoyed camping at Big River Campground at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, fishing, dancing, playing cards, playing pool, the Hook-N-Liner club in Littleton and the Knights of Columbus. Ronnie was a helpful farm neighbor.

Ron is survived by his wife—Pauline Rau of Oelwein, Iowa Children—Lori Pirillo of Oelwein, Iowa; Theresa (Jim) Loban of Oelwein, Iowa; Dave (Susan) Rau of Marion, Iowa; Randy (Amy) Rau of Oelwein, Iowa and Chad Rau of Oelwein, Iowa; Grandchildren—Nick and Kami Pirillo, Ben and Sam Loban, John (Gretchen) Nehl, Danie and Zach Rau, and Trevor Rau; a Great Granddaughter—Kennedy Nehl 2 Brothers—Richard (Marion) Rau of Aurora, Iowa and Roger (Kay) Rau of Bend, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his Parents.
