Evelyn J. Derr, 84, of Hazleton, Iowa died on Tuesday afternoon, December 14, 2010 at Covenant Medical Center at Waterloo.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hazleton with Pastor Duane Olsen officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Interment: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Oelwein, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name.

Evelyn June Amos was born on June 9, 1926 at Lima, Iowa the daughter of Jesse Jack & Beulah Mae (Warner) Amos.

She received her education from the Fayette and Strawberry Point schools. Evelyn was united in marriage to John Junior Derr on March 8, 1944 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church parsonage in Strawberry Point. They farmed at Lamont, Arlington and then in 1950 moved to the “Big Farm” seven miles southwest of Arlington. In 1973 they retired to Downey, California until they moved to Hazleton in 1983. Evelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hazleton, Joy Builders, Good Sam’s Camping Club, card clubs and Merry Tuesday Club. She enjoyed traveling, planting her flowers and rubber stamping.

Evelyn is survived by her Husband of 66 years: John Derr of Hazleton, Iowa 4 Children: Judy (Vern) Wegner of Mansfield, Texas John (Sharon) Derr of Dana Point, California June (Mark) Birdnow of Jesup, Iowa Janet (Frank) Belknap of Poway, California 8 Grandchildren: Jeff (Debbie) Wegner, Julie (Koby) Olson, Jennifer (Gary) Weaver, Jamie (Scott) Johnson, Jeremy Birdnow, Justin (Meghan) Birdnow, Jenna Belknap & James Belknap and 13 Great Grandchildren: Bradley Wegner, Jeremy Wegner, Randall Wegner, Jarett Wegner, Jaycie Wegner, Jonah Wegner, Jacob Olson, Jonathon Olson, Luke Weaver, Dillon Weaver, Cora Weaver, Jayce Birdnow & Evelyn Jo Birdnow.

She was preceded in death by her Parents and 3 Brothers: Warner, James and Charles Amos.
