Malvin “Bud” Paul Machacek

Malvin “Bud” Paul Machacek, 92 years old, of rural Winthrop, Iowa, died on Monday, December 13, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa, following a short illness.

He was born on May 24, 1918, in Linn County, Iowa, the son of Vaclav “Wesley” and Pauline (Novak) Machacek.

He graduated from high school in Alburnett, Iowa, in 1938. On August 21, 1940, he and the former Bonnie Beryl Reed were married in Waterloo, Iowa. They farmed in Buchanan County. Mr. Machacek retired in 2005. Bonnie preceded him in death in 2009. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence, and the Farm Bureau. Mr. Machacek was formerly active in Winthrop and the East Buchanan School District affairs. He enjoyed gardening, Czech music, and traveling both in and out of this country.

Mr. Machacek is survived by 2 sons, David (Marcy) Machacek of Alburnett, Iowa, and Richard (Cheryl) Machacek of Winthrop, Iowa, 4 grandchildren, Kristin (Ryan) Baker of St. Augustine, Florida, Stephanie (Bobby) Ascher of Marion, Iowa, Jennifer Machacek of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Andrew Machacek of Independence, Iowa, and 3 great grandchildren, Brennan Baker, Connor Baker, and Dylan Ascher.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and 9 brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Burr Bryant officiating. Music will be provided by Dr. and Mrs. Don Bowden. Honorary casket bearers will be Stephanie Ascher, Jennifer Machacek, and John C. Hogan. Casket Bearers will be Andrew Machacek, Randy Balderston, Dr. Don R. Bowden, Bobby Ascher, and Marvin Machacek.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.

Friends may call for visitation after 10 a.m. on Sat., Dec. 18th, at the funeral home.
