Richard Alan Downer was born February 4, 1948, at Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Harold Henry and Mary Maxine Richards Downer.

He grew up in the Lamont-Aurora area and graduated from Starmont High School with the class of 1966.

Dick was united in marriage to Joan Strub on April 28, 1973, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union was born a son, James. Dick and Joan later divorced.

Farming on the Downer farm all his life, Dick was a crop farmer, and raised dairy and hogs. He was a member of the Lamont Masonic Lodge for many years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and traveling.

At the age of 62, Dick entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, December 8, 2010, at his farm home, following a sudden illness.

Preceding him in death was his father.

Survivors include his son, James of Lamont, IA; his mother, Mary Maxine of Edgewood, IA; a special friend, Gail Olson of Akron, IA; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at the Fawcett Funeral Home, located at 305 Pearl Street, in Lamont, with Rev. Sue Ann Raymond officiating.

Interment will be in the Strawberry Point Cemetery at Strawberry Point, Iowa.

Friends may call from 10 AM until service time on Tuesday at the Fawcett Funeral Home.
