Nadine Lucille Hogan was born November 21, 1935, at Brandon, Iowa, the daughter of Milo and Agnes Gunn Kearns. Her early years were spent at Brandon where she attended school.

Nadine was united in marriage to Mark Hogan on April 7, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. They moved various times while Mark was in the service and upon his discharge in 1953, moved to Evansdale, Iowa. Moving to their farm east of Winthrop, Iowa, in 1963, they raised their nine children: Joan, Carol, Mark, Dean, Robin, Christine, Pat, Michelle, and Melissa. In 2007 they moved to their present home at Cardinal Court in Independence, Iowa.

After being a devoted mother and raising their nine children, Nadine became a dedicated home health care worker, and especially cared for her loving husband, Mark. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Winthrop. Being an avid card player, the neighborhood Cardinal Court Card Club met regularly at the Hogan home to enjoy many hands of cards. The Community Center coffee clutch was always a monthly highlight. Nadine’s recent pleasure has been her computer where she learned to play numerous games and create her own Facebook page, including the endearing, “Happy Aquarium”. Over the years, she knitted, crocheted, and quilted; making many treasures for her loving family. The special times she spent with them are precious memories.

At 75 years of age, Nadine entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa, following a sudden illness.

Proceeding her in death were her parents; six brothers: Howard, Edward, Lee, Richard, Russell, and John Kearns; and one sister, Mildred Chapman.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Mark, of Independence; six daughters: Joan (Dennis) Sommerfelt of Walker, IA; Carol (Mike) Williams of Merrill, IA; Robin (Ron) Kress of Quasqueton, IA; Christine (Stewart) Bagley of Independence; Michelle (Don) O’Brien and Melissa (Kevin) Bergom, both of Belle Plaine, IA; three sons: Mark (Jackie) Hogan of Cedar Rapids, IA; Dean (Sue) Hogan of Independence; and Pat Hogan of Mediapolis, IA; twenty two grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren; four sisters: Norma Jean (Wilbur) Young of Waterloo, IA; Bev (Carl) Scott of Dysart, IA; Loretta (George) Mickens and Diane Lambirth, both of Arizona; two brothers: Kenneth (Judy) Kearns of Arizona and Clarence (Shirley) Kearns of Oskaloosa, IA; and other relatives and friends.
