Alberta Blanche Burnell, 95 years old, of Independence, formerly of Rowley, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center LTC in Independence following a short illness.

She was born on February 21, 1915, in Coggan, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Blanche (Leclere) Wenger.

She attended school in Coggan. On March 7, 1932, she and Harold James Burnell were married in Waterloo, Iowa. They farmed near Coggon and Rowley until they retired in 1981. Harold preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Burnell was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rowley. She enjoyed going out to eat and having coffee with friends. She also enjoyed the activities at the Independence Senior Center and playing cards.

Mrs. Burnell is survived by 3 sons, Jack (Marilyn) Burnell of Springville, Iowa, and Keith Burnell and Rick Burnell, both of Rowley, Iowa, and 1 daughter, Verna Harms of Tipton, Iowa. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Joan Ford of Marion, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 grandsons, 1 great grandson, 1 brother, 2 sisters, and 1 daughter-in-law, Connie Burnell.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Pastor Rikki Sorensen officiating. Casket Bearers will be Matt Burnell, Mike Burnell, Jim Orr, Jason Orr, and Jim Grover.

Burial will be in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13th, at the funeral home.
