Florence Darlene Spece, 84 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.
She was born on July 31, 1926, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Jess Marian and Effie Mae (Reed) Masters.
She graduated from high school in Oelwein with the Class of 1944. On March 20, 1949, she and Vernon Keith Spece were married at the Methodist Church in Oelwein. Mrs. Spece was a nurse’s aide at Peoples Memorial Hospital in Independence and later worked at Triangle Plastics. She was a willing volunteer with many organizations including Operation Threshold. In her youth she enjoyed roller skating.
Mrs. Spece is survived by her husband of 61 years, Vernon, 2 sons, Craig (Julie) Spece and Larry Spece, both of Independence, and 1 daughter, Diana (Roger) Bagg of Rowley, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 brothers, Wayne (Joann) Masters of Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Howard (Norma) Masters of Waterloo, Iowa, and Raymond (Alice) Masters of Lincoln, Nebraska, 3 sisters, Dorothy Olsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Dolores Novak of Brandon, Iowa, and Norma Lee (Roger) VanHaafton of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and 1 sister-in-law, Joan Masters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, Glen Masters, Ralph Masters, Donald Masters, Delbert Masters, and Jess Masters, 1 sister, Velma Mervin, and 1 daughter-in-law, Penny Spece.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Gary Wilson officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26th, at the funeral home.
