LT. Perle Darwin STAINBROOK

Brandon, Ia. – Reburial services for Lt. Perle D. Stainbrook will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (1949) in the Methodist church here, with military burial rites in Brandon cemetery.

The casketed remains were accompanied to the Miller funeral home at Vinton Thursday night from Chicago by his father, Lloyd Stainbrook.

Lieutenant Stainbrook enlisted in the Army in December 1940, and went overseas in February 1944. He was killed in action over the Ploesti Oil Fields in Romania, Apr. 5, 1944 while on a mission with the 97th bomb group, 419th bombardment squadron.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, World War II Victory medal and American Defense Service medal, American Campaign medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with three bronze service stars, and marksman badge with rifle bar.

He was born at Brandon (Buchanan Co, IA) Dec. 15, 1918. He was a graduate of Brandon High School and a member of the Brandon Methodist church.

Surviving are his parents (Lloyd E. Stainbrook & Henrietta Rouse), six brothers, Lyle, Milo, and Gerald, Brandon, Bernie and Virgil, Waterloo (IA), and Floyd, Van Horne (IA).
