Julie Mary Schellhorn, 58, of Fairbank, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the West Village Care Center in Independence, Iowa.

Julie was born on September 30, 1952, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur William and Enid Frances (Smith) Cowles. Julie was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Madison.

She graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1970. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa. She was united in marriage to Galen Schellhorn in July of 1976. They were later divorced. She taught for a number of years in the Wapsie Valley Community School District. Her life was fulfilled through her faith and through teaching the many children while at Wapsie. She enjoyed birds, her many pets, fishing, music and spending time with her family and friends.

Julie is survived by her two sons, Travis (Katie) Schellhorn of Independence, Iowa; Aaron Schellhorn of West Palm Beach, Florida; one brother, Roger (Mary Lee) Cowles of Fort Madison, Iowa; and one sister, Susan (Leroy) Witzel of Humboldt, Iowa; and her beloved companion, her dog, Dottie.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 10:30 am at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Readlyn.

Burial will be in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Readlyn.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Readlyn.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for several of Julie's special interests.
