Clarence Earl Bailey, 87 of Independence, IA, died Thursday, October 14, 2010, at his home.

He was born August 2, 1923, on the family farm in Black Hawk County, IA, the son of Frank Ray Bailey and Effie Mae (Ennis) Bailey.

He served in the US Marines from 1944 – 1946. On April 26, 1952 he was united in marriage to Victoria Sadowski in Florence, AZ. Clarence farmed between Independence and Jesup after returning to Iowa. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 both in Jesup, IA. He enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Mr. Bailey is survived by one sister, Helen Blad of Jesup, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Victoria, who died in 2007, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter Lynne Victoria Bailey; his parents; three brothers, Roy, Ralph and Robert Bailey; and three sisters, Nellie Green, Iva Dinnebier and Eula Brown.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. – Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Kristy Parker and Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Casket Bearers were Roland Brown, Frank Brown, Mike Brown, Ralph Dinnebier, Eli Funke and Derek Noe.

Military Rites were conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup, IA, with burial at Old Barclay Cemetery, rural Jesup, IA.
