INDEPENDENCE: Arthur E. Uthoff, Jr., age 70, died Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Buchanan County Health Center following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with Rev. Jerry Thordsen of the First Christian Church in Vinton officiating. Interment will be held at the Mount Auburn Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 of Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 PM on Friday. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Arthur was born December 25, 1935 at Cascade, the son of Arthur E. and Bessie L. (Vogt) Uthoff, Sr. and received his diploma from the Vinton High School.
From 1951 to 1955 he served his nation in the US Navy.

On August 30, 1959 he married Betty Pecher at the Church Of The Brethren in Brooklyn, Iowa.

Arthur was a farmer and had been employed at Donaldson's Mfg in Grinnell and Iowa Ham in Independence prior to his retirement. He enjoyed time spent with his family and friends, camping and sitting by the fire, wintering in southern Arkansas, working on the farm, and riding his moped. He also loved his dog, Buddy.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Independence; his sons, Richard (Nicole) Uthoff of Eldridge, and Jeffrey (Michelle) Uthoff of Downingtown, PA; his daughter, Laura Lynne Uthoff and husband, Martin Hemann of Fredericksburg; his grandchildren, Matthew, Jodi, Taylor, Kerrie, Madison, Jakob, and Jayden Uthoff, Rebecca and Sarah Hemann, Benjamin and Jake Garnette; his brothers, George (Linda) Uthoff of Independence, Stanley (Avis) Uthoff and Merlin Uthoff, all of Cedar Rapids, Roger (Raela) Uthoff and Douglas Uthoff, all of Vinton, and Jerry Uthoff of Louisville, KY; his sisters, Charlene VanVoltenberg, Joyce Barber, Susan (Jim) DeMar, all of Cedar Rapids.

His parents preceded him in death.
