ROWLEY - Steve Bruce, age 52, died Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with Rev. David Larson officiating. Interment will be held at the Urbana Cemetery in Urbana. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 PM on Monday. A Memorial Fund has been established for Steve's favorite charities.

Steve was born October 4, 1954 at Cedar Rapids to Dale and Beverly (Rutherford) Bruce and graduated from Center Point High School in 1972.

On October 5, 1974 he married Sally Hanson at Vinton.

He was employed by NuMac Grain Elevator in Walker for twenty years and for the past ten years was employed as a "finish carpenter" by Larson Construction Co. in Independence. An active outdoorsman, he was a Buckskinner. A long time car enthusiast, he restored a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner that was showcased throughout the mid-west. Steve's favorite saying was "Mopar, or no car". Steve's greatest pleasure came from time spent with his family and especially his grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Sally of Rowley; his children, Jason (Paige) Bruce of Urbandale, and Stacey Bruce of Rowley; his grandson, Sam Bruce; his parents, Dale and Beverly Bruce of Tucson, AZ; his sisters, Tiane (David) Christy of Tulsa, OK, Cindy (Troy) Henle and Sheri (William) Jensen all of Cedar Rapids; his brother, James Bruce and his friend, Terri Huff of Cedar Rapids; and nine nieces and nephews.
