VINTON: Ronald "Ron" Gray, age 61, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton following a courageous battle with Cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St., in Vinton with Rev. David Gates officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 PM on Monday. A memorial fund has been established in Ron's name.

Ron was born August 30, 1944 at Brandon to Willard and Charlotte (Clark) Gray. On November 28, 1970 he married Sandi Little at Vinton. She preceded him in death in 1991. He married Nancy Jones on August 22, 1998 at Vinton. For twenty years he was employed at Universal Engineering in Cedar Rapids and the past eight years he owned and operated the Modern Motel in Vinton.

In his leisure he enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and golfing. He greatest pleasure came from time spent with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Vinton; his mother, Charlotte Gray of Vinton; his sons, Brian Gray of Vinton, Shawn Gehring of Garrison, and Rodney Gehring of Des Moines; his step-daughters, Lueann (Lowell) Marovec and Gena (Todd) Neal, all of Vinton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brother, Russell (Marge) Gray of Geneseo, IL; and his sister, Joan Peterson of Des Moines.

In addition to his first wife, Sandi, he was preceded in death by his father, Willard, in 1987 and an infant son, Joseph.
