Eileen Annie Reed was born September 20, 1921 on a farm near Masonville, Iowa, the daughter of James and Blanche Delbridge Bowden. She attended country school through the eighth grade, then continued her education at Lamont High School, graduating in 1940.
Eileen was united in marriage to Vern S. Reed on October 8, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union were born two sons: Roger and Clair. They lived on the Bowden farm south of Lamont, then in Strawberry Point before moving to Lamont in 1948. Her mother lived with them for 22 years. Eileen’s focus was always caring for her family and her mother. Eileen was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Lamont.
Eileen entered into her eternal rest on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a short illness. She was 87 years of age.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Vern, five brothers: Fred, William, Lewellyn (Barney), Tudor, and Arnold Bowden; four sisters: Bessie Potter, Myrtle Day, Neva Donaldson, and Gwendolyn Schweitzer.
Survivors include her two sons: Roger (Gail) Reed of Urbandale,IA and Clair (Marlys) Reed of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; four grandchildren: Peggy (Spencer) Steere of Kingswood, TX, Chad (Wendy) Reed of Marshall, TX, Rhonda (Dale) Moyle of Fairfax, and Rachel (Darin) Steva of Perry; eleven great grandchildren: Alexa and Tyson Steere; Connor, Caden, and Cameron Reed; Sydney Lympus; Hayley Kennedy and Colin Moyle; and Caden and Callie Steva; three sisters-in-law: Frankie Bowden, Mabel Bowden, and Burnita Reed; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. in the Grace United Methodist Church at Lamont with Pastor John Brockschink officiating. Music will be provided by Ann Slattery, Anita Bowden, and Don Bowden. Casketbearers will be Jan Schweitzer, Larry Donaldson, Lee Bowden, Dean Bowden, Gary Bowden, and Jim Reed.
Interment will be in the Campton-Oak Hill Cemetery east of Lamont.
Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church in Lamont or the family at 14207 Goodman Drive , Urbandale, IA, 50323.
Friends may call from 4 PM until 7 PM Friday December 19, 2008 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Lamont and after 9:30 AM Saturday at the Church. The Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lamont assisted the family with arrangements.
