Lamont - Fleta Ava Luitjen was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Wayne County IA, the daughter of Merle and Sophie Duff Kindred. Fleta was united in marriage to Cecil E. Luitjen Nov. 25, 1933. To this union were born two daughters Jean Ann and Joyce Lowe.
Fleta moved to Lamont IA, in 1985 shortly after her husband Cecil of 52 years, died on March 17, 1985. She was a very “special lady” who lovingly made a hand-stitched quilt for each member of her family as well as knitted slippers to keep their feet warm.
Fleta entered into her eternal rest Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at her apartment in Lamont, following a sudden illness, at the age of 93.
She is survived by her two daughters: Jean Bergfeld of Aurora, and Joyce (Russ LaFond) of Davis City; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Luitjen, her son-in-law Jim Bergfeld, her brother Chet, and her three sisters: Hazel Forsyth, Helen Lewis, and Bronna McLaughlin.
Funeral services were Monday Dec. 15, 2008, at 11 AM at the Fawcett Funeral Chapel at Lamont with Pastor John Brockschink officiating. Interment was in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Friends called at the Fawcett Funeral Chapel in Lamont from 3 until 6 PM, Sunday Dec. 14 and after 10 AM Monday Dec. 15.
