Independence - Judith Marie Cabalka, 66 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, following a short illness. She was born on April 25, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of James Milton and Jean Ellen (Walton) Stover. She graduated from high school in Independence, Iowa, with the Class of 1960. On June 12, 1960, she and Thomas Dean Cabalka were married at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. In 1960, Mrs. Cabalka started working in the bookkeeping department of the Farmers State Savings Bank in Independence, Iowa. By the time of her retirement in 2002, she was the Comptroller of Bank Iowa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence. She was formerly a member of the Independence Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, the Chamber Board of Directors, the Retail Board, and was a past president of the Waterloo Area Chapter of the American Institute of Banking.
Mrs. Cabalka is survived by her husband of 48 years, Tom, 2 sons, Mike (Steph) Cabalka and Marc (Shelly) Cabalka, and 1 daughter, Kaila Chavez, all of Independence, Iowa. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Barbara Meister of Jesup, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter in infancy, 1 sister, Donna Banning, and 1 brother in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Friends may call fro visitation on Sunday, Dec. 7th, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
