Merle D. Melrose, 93, of Madison, WI, formally of Independence, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 in Madison following a short illness.

Merle was born September 23, 1915 in Coffee County, TN, the daughter of Claude R. and Delight T. (Felts) Miller. Merle was married to attorney Robert Melrose and the couple lived in Independence from 1939 until his passing in 1956, at which time she moved the family to Milwaukee. She taught Physical Education at the Whitefish Bay Schools, until she retired at age 62.

She is survived by two daughters; Claudia Melrose of Madison, WI and Roberta (Joseph) Giroux of Ben Lomond, CA, daughter in law, Phen and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John.

Graveside services will be held at 12 P.M. Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Littleton Cemetery, Littleton, IA.
