WATERLOO –Steven C. Kono, 37 of Waterloo, IA, formally of Iowa City and Independence, IA, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center Emergency Room, Waterloo, following a sudden illness.

Steve was born November 10, 1971 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Robert G. and Jean (Kelley) Kono. Steve enjoyed fishing, hanging out with his friends, playing cards and basketball and his fish tank. He liked to cook, which he learned to do at age 10 and was a fan of NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon.

He is survived by his daughter Chelsea Nolen of Independence, mother Jean Kono of Independence, a sister Kelley Kono of Independence, brothers Todd Kono of North Carolina and Terry Gnade of Parkersburg, his grandmother Wilma Kelley and a nephew Zachary A. McNeese.

He was preceded in death by his father, a nephew Justin M. McNeese, his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence. Friends may call from 11 A.M. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date.
