Bryce L. Mercer, 24 years old, of West Des Moines, IA, (formerly of Jesup) died on Oct. 17, 2008, as the result of an apparent homicide.

Bryce was born on June 4, 1984, in Waterloo, son of Randy and Vivian (Olive) Mercer. He received his education in the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Schools where he was graduated from high school in the Class of 2002.

He attended Wartburg College, Waverly, where he received a double major in Finance and Economics, and played football all four years. He was employed by the Principal Financial Group in Des Moines.

He is survived by his parents, Randy and Vivian Mercer of Gladbrook; one sister, Justina (Derek) Brant and their daughter Kennedy, of Albertville, MN; his maternal grandmother, Pat Olive (Paul) Farris of West Des Moines, and paternal grandparents Eugene and Joyce Mercer of Gladbrook; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Russell Olive.

A memorial service was held Friday, October 24, at 2 PM at the Gladbrook United Methodist Church in Gladbrook with Pastor Kim Wilson officiating. Inurnment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Gladbrook

Overton Family Funeral Homes of Traer were in charge of the arrangements.
