Independence - Charles William Johnson, 61years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, October 17, 2008, at his home following a long illness.
He was born on June 12, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of William Marion and Louise (Sadlon) Johnson. He graduated from the Benton Community Schools in Van Horne, Iowa, with the Class of 1966. Later that year he entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam.
On February 27, 1970, he and the former Susan Jo Nelson were married in Independence, Iowa. They farmed in Buchanan County and Mr. Johnson was also employed as a tractor assemblyman at John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa. He retired in 1998.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan, 3 daughters, Kimberly (Gary) Holub and Melanie (Aaron) Svoboda, both of Independence, Iowa, and Lisa (Wade) Patton of Rowley, Iowa, and 1 son, Andrew (Ashley) Johnson of Independence, Iowa. He is also survived by his mother, Louise Johnson of Independence, Iowa, 10 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Judith Finger of Urbana, Iowa, and Karen (Jim) Hardy of Phoenix, Arizona, and 1 brother, David (Diane) Johnson of Urbana, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2008, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. On Sunday, Oct. 19th, there will be a Military Service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19th, at the funeral home.
