Jesup - Allan Duane Fitzer, 65 years old, of Jesup, Iowa, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa, following a short illness.

He was born on July 14, 1943, in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Roland Gillman and Norma Lee (Skinner) Fitzer. He graduated from the Lincoln Way High School in New Lenox, Illinois, with the Class of 1962. He served in a medical unit with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On November 14, 1970, he and the former Marion Elizabeth Nolen were married at the Austin Methodist Church in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Fitzer was a banker with the First National Bank of Chicago from February of 1969 until he retired in March of 2004. He moved to Jesup, Iowa, in March of 2005. Mr. Fitzer was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jesup, the Fortsch-Duffy American Legion Post #552 in Fairbank, and the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440 in Independence. He enjoyed fishing, walks, and 1960’s muscle cars. Most of all, he was a “hugger” and looked forward to time spent with children and especially his nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fitzer is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marion, his mother, Norma Fitzer of Merrillville, Indiana, 1 sister, Janet Schweitzer of Griffith, Indiana, 2 nieces, 3 nephews, 3 great nieces, and 2 sisters-in-law, Linda (Dale) Miller of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Rhoda VanGaalen of Independence, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Jesup, Iowa, with Rev. Vicki Reece officiating. Music was provided by Dawn Quackenbush, organist. Casket Bearers were Dale Miller, Bradley Miller, Daniel Stoner, Larry Bohling, Tim Davis, and Shawn Davis.
