Rowley - Marilyn E. Wilson, 86 years old, of rural Rowley, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at West Village Care Center in Independence, Iowa, on Friday, January 5, 2007, following a short illness. Visitation was held after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2007, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, where a C.D.A./Parish Rosary began at 3:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service began at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2007. Fr. Al Vorwald was the Celebrant. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery in Independence.
Marilyn Emily (Eicke) Wilson was born at the family farm near Rowley, Iowa, on February 26, 1920, to Floyd Drew and Emily Helen (Smith) Eicke. She was the sole survivor of that union. One sister, Kathleen Fagle, and three brothers, Dale, Darrell and Hugh Eicke, preceded her in death. She married Lloyd Alton Wilson on January 10, 1940, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Winthrop, Iowa. Besides her parents and siblings, her husband, Lloyd ,on December 2, 1984, and one granddaughter, Kayla Wilson, on December 2, 1986, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her four children, Anogene (Dean) Varner, Cedar Rapids, IA, Delvin (Linda) Wilson, Olympia, WA, Velda Wilson, Mitchellville, IA, and Kent (Kathy) Wilson, Rowley, IA. Her surviving eleven grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren are Emily (Trevor), Ethan, and Evan Martensen, Scotch Grove, IA; Mike (Valerie), Drew, Seth, and Kate Wilson, Portland, OR; Debby, Mayson, and Avery Douglass, Spokane, WA; Greg (Robyn) Kaleb and Kodi Wilson, Olympia, WA; Curt (Shelly), Kaden, Lauren, Camryn, and Taryn Wilson, Olympia, WA; Brad (Audra), Anika, and Ella Wilson, Maple Valley, WA; Ann (Jeff), Amanda, Hayley, and Meghan Wilson, Altoona, IA; Patrick (Amy) and Reesa Fix and Taylor Ritenour, Hopkins, MN; Kelly (Tammie), Brandon, and Taylor Wilson, Olympia, WA; Korey (Sara) Wilson, Collin and Tanner, and Kirk Wilson, Rowley, IA.
Marilyn was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church in Rowley, IA, all of her life. For several years she taught religious education classes. She also played the church organ, was a member of the All Saints Study Club, a Eucharistic minister, and the Catholic Daughters. She was an avid member of the PTA and was also a 4-H leader for sixteen years. She retired from the Mental Health Institute in May of 1982 after 37 years of employment. She enjoyed dancing, writing poetry, playing cards, bowling, and was an excellent seamstress. First and foremost was her love of the farm and her family.
