Hopkinton - Lyle Max Wilson, 75 years old of Hopkinton, IA, and formerly of Independence, IA, died Sunday, October 15, 2006, at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, IA, following a short illness. He was born November 4, 1930, in Buchanan County, near Rowley, IA, the son of John Arthur Wilson and Hattie Alfetta (Gates) Wilson. He graduated from the Independence High School with the class of 1948. On August 12, 1951, he was united in marriage to Lucille Virginia House, at the Presbyterian Church in Hopkinton, IA. Lyle worked 27 years for the Buchanan County Rural Electric Cooperative and then purchased and operated Rowley Appliance & Hardware for 10 years. He retired in 1993, at which time he and Lucille became fulltime RV enthusists. He was a member of the Rowley United Methodist Church, and enjoyed his participation as a member of the choir at the First United Church of Hopkinton. Lyle was a veteran having served in U.S. Army Signal Corp during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife Lucille of Hopkinton, IA, 4 daughters, Ruth Ann Eiffert of Chesapeake, Virginia, Rebecca (Rod) Elson of Jesup, IA, Kay (Kevin) Kiler of Rowley, IA, Janean Jensen of Des Moines, IA. 10 grandchildren and 1 step great granddaughter, also 3 brothers, Delbert (Marie) Wilson of Rowley, IA, Leland (Madonna) Wilson of Decorah, IA, James (Leone) Wilson of Coupeville, Washington, 2 sisters, Virginia (Burr) McFarland of Ames, IA, and Thelma Hand of Iowa City, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Lloyd Wilson and Ralph Wilson, 1 sister, Eileen Boelter, 1 son-inlaw, Steven Jensen and 1 half brother, Duane Wilson.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. – Thursday, October 19, 2006, at the First United Church, Hopkinton, IA, with Rev. Kenneth J. Hartman officiating. Burial was at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Rowley Cemetery, Rowley, IA.
