Independence - Agnes Betty Straw, 81 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at West Village Care Center in Independence following a short illness. She was born on July 2, 1925, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of Edmund and Florence (Kemp) Fratzke. On January 3, 1947, she and Ruben Delbert Straw were married in Independence, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. Straw worked as an egg candler at the Independence Produce Company for several years. She worked at Mid West Wood Products in Independence for 10 years. Mrs. Straw enjoyed gardening and raising house plants. She specialized in African violets and geraniums.
Mrs. Straw is survived by 3 daughters, Carol (Gerald) Miller of Vinton, Iowa, Linda (David) Driskell of Pamona, Missouri, and Donna (Jeff) Simmons of Independence, Iowa, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Audrey Clinton of Lake Tawakoni, Texas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, 1 sister, and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Bill Black. Honorary Casket Bearers were Melissa Simmons, Jennifer Neuhaus, Melanie Reid, Schantel Smith, Tyler Neuhaus, Alyssa Neuhaus, Michelle Neuhaus, Haley Reid, and David Reid. Casket Bearers were Chet Reid, Pat Neuhaus, Taylor Simmons, Benny Straw, Mike Fratzke, and Tom Simmons. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.
