Jesup – Daniel A. Strauel, 89 years old of Jesup, IA, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at East Towne Care Center, Independence, IA following a lengthy illness. He was born November 28, 1917, at Waterloo, IA, the son of Albert Strauel and Elizabeth (Trierweiler) Strauel. He graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1936 and then attended and graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo, IA. On October 11, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ruth Arlene Schares at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Waterloo, IA. Dan farmed in the Jesup area until retirement and moved to town. He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, for 89 years. He was also a member of Fr. Ferring Council 8227 of the Knights of Columbus in Jesup.
Mr. Strauel is survived by his wife Ruth Strauel of Jesup, IA, 4 daughters, Rosemary Guehrn of Cedar Rapids, IA, Donna Sweeney of Malvern, PA, Margaret “Peggy” (Dennis) Schares of Dubuque, IA, Mary Pat (Jack) Moore of Reinbeck, IA, 2 sons, Robert (Kathleen) Strauel and Donald “Donny” Strauel both of Jesup, IA, also 8 grandchildren, Kristy Powers, Jessie Schares, Joseph Schares, Daniel Moore, Ashley Moore, Sara Strauel, Caroline Strauel, and Claire Strauel, also 2 sisters, Florence (Dr. Bernard) Jaeger of Madison, WI and Mildred (William) Hayes of West Bend, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, William Strauel.
Funeral Services were at 10:30 a.m. – Thursday, July 26, 2007, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Kenneth C. Stecher, as Celebrant. Honorary Casket Bearers were Delbert Phillips, Bernard Becker, Melvin Weber and Lawrence Corkery. Casket Bearers were William Olinger, Wayne Schares, Al Schares, Greg Weber, Tom Delagardelle, Mike Hayes and Tim Hayes and Dr. Fred Jaeger. Burial was at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery, Jesup, IA.
Memorials will be directed to the St. Athanasius Church remodeling fund and to St. Athanasius School.
