Independence - Belden Derald Lemons, 98 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, February 16, 2007, at West Village Care Center in Independence following a short illness.

He was born on December 18, 1908, in Winthrop, Iowa, the son of Charles Henry and Cora Ethel (Peterson) Lemons. He graduated from the Winthrop High School. On November 19, 1933, he and the former Pearl Marian Emery were married in Iowa City, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1973. On March 12, 1979, he and the former Doris Mae Flaten were married in Independence, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2006.

Mr. Lemons was a butter maker at Wapsie Valley Creamery in Independence and Johnson County Creamery in Iowa City. When he returned to Independence, he worked at Dunlap Motors and then purchased the Mobil Gas Station. He operated the service station until retiring in 1973. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence, AARP, and the Shysters. He also was a member of the Independence Masonic Lodge #87 A.F. & A.M. (for over 75 years) and the Declaration Chapter Order of Eastern Star #278.

Mr. Lemons is survived by 1 daughter, Belva (Harold) Heiserman of Maplewood, Minnesota, 1 son, Roger (Linda) Lemons of Waukee, Iowa, and 2 step daughters, Marcia Poston of Independence, Iowa, and Marlys Brownlee of Winthrop, Iowa. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren.

In addition to his spouses, he was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Alan Lemons, 5 step grandchildren, and 1 sister, Lucille O’Brien.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Leo Schubich, organist. On Monday, February 19th, a Masonic Service began at 7:00 p.m. at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Honorary

Casket Bearers were Ed Armstead and Roger Baker. Casket Bearers were Kevin Heiserman, Joel Heiserman, Matthew Lemons, Jonathan Lemons, David Gross, and David Peck.

Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.
