Independence - Dale Douglas Jensen, 72 years old, of Independence, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2006, at his home, due to cancer. He was born on March 31, 1934, in Oak Park, Minnesota, the son of Jack and Edna (Stofflet) Jensen. Dale farmed with his parents. He married Darleen M. Fredrickson in 1954 in Oak Park. Five children were born of this marriage. They were divorced in 1988. They moved to Waterloo in 1955 and then to Jesup where Dale worked at John Deere and helped others farm. In 1977 they moved to Independence, Iowa, and Dale kept farming and raising hogs while still working for John Deere of Waterloo. He retired after 41 years in 1996.
On September 24, 1988, in Milaca, Minnesota, Dale married Donna Dee Weaver, of Minnesota. They had known each other as children. Dale and Donna volunteered at the Buchanan County Senior Center, ate noon meals, played bingo, cards, and Dale played pool. He was a member of the Shyster’s and played pool with them and entered pool tournaments. They were involved in the Health and Wellness business with Nikken, Inc. and Waiora.
Dale is survived by his wife, Donna, 2 sisters, Arliss Glocke of Montgomery, MN, and Kathleen Phillips of Palatine, IL, 3 nephews and 1 niece, 3 daughters, Karen (Lonnie) Widger of Independence, IA, Terri (Bill) Gordish of Des Moines, IA, and Diane Jensen of Burnsville, MN, and 2 sons, Lee (Linda) Jensen of Independence, IA, and Davin Jensen of Vinton, IA, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren with one on the way, 4 step-daughters, Pamela (Tim) Jost of Anoka, MN, Patricia (Michael) Robinson of Moundsview, MN, Julie Klammer of Independence, IA, and Lori (Joe) Sibinski of East Bethel, MN, 7 step grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren.
Dale loved music of the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. He also loved planting and selling sweet corn with his wife, Donna.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Independence, Iowa, with Dr. David A. Larson officiating. Music was provided by Mr. Derek Newton, organist. Inurnment will be in Minnesota at a future date. Memorials may be directed to his wife, Donna.
