Margrethe Jane Hitchens died Wednesday, June 27th, 2007 in Walnut Creek, California. She was born Margrethe Jane LeMont, September 14th, 1916 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and graduated from the old Washington High School in 1934. While living in Cedar Rapids, she was active in Sweet Adelines Chorus, Footlighters Theater Group and Bridge club.
She resided in Denver, Co, from 1960 to 2006, where she was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, an avid golfer, member of the American Sewing Guild and Christ the King Church quilting club. "Marge" was employed as a secretary for law firms and advertising agencies in Cedar Rapids and Denver, Co.
She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister and Aunt and will be greatly missed. She had a great sense of humor and a zest for life that touched all those who knew her.
Survivors to honor her memory are her husband of 47 years, Ray D. Hitchens, originally from Independence, Iowa, now residing in Walnut Creek, Ca., Son, James M. Redmond (Janice) of Dana Point, Ca., daughter, Mary M. Agnew of Walnut Creek, Ca., Grandchildren Christopher Agnew, Teresa (Chris) Craft, Elizabeth “Betsy” Osenbauge and Janna & Jamie Redmond all of California, Great-Grandchildren Kevin, Colin and Sarah Craft of Californian. Sister, Elsie Rae (James) Patterson of Cedar Rapids, Sisters-in-law Maxine (Gordon) Edwards of Cedar Rapids and Leila Le Mont of Kansas and 7 Nieces & 4 Nephews.
Preceded in death by her beloved eldest Son, John R. Redmond, Parents, Ray E. and Elsie LeMont, Brothers Richard and Robert LeMont, Mother-in-law Ada Hitchens, Brothers-in-law Oscar Hitchens and Theo Hitchens.
Funeral Services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with Pastor Kay Slocum officiating. Burial was in Wilson Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
