Jesup - Shirley Irene Hampton, 70 years old of Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence, IA and formerly of Cedar Rapids and Jesup, IA, died Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Prairie Hills of cancer.

She was born November 8, 1936 in Independence, IA, the daughter of LeRoy Hanson and Anna Mae (Luloff) Hanson. She attended school in Independence and Jesup, IA, graduating from Jesup High School in 1954. In 1955, she was united in marriage to Dale Hayward in Independence, IA, they later divorced and in 1963 she married Richard Hampton in Concord, CA., they divorced in 1970. Shirley worked for the Independence Police Department and then 18 years as a radio dispatcher for the Iowa State Patrol in Cedar Rapids. She retired in 1998. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Jesup, IA.

Shirley is survived by 2 daughters, Tracey (Donald) Schultz of Independence, IA, Vikki Phillips of Hiawatha, IA, 2 sons, Robert Hampton of Jesup, IA, and Matt Hampton of Cedar Rapids, IA, also 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 4 brothers, Gene (Myrtle) Hanson and Jim (Julie) Hanson of Clear Lake, IA, Edwin “Bud” (Diann) Hanson and Steve (Barb) Schmitz of Waterloo, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 grandson, Jacob Hampton.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. – Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA, with Pastor Dawn Pederson officiating. Burial was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, IA.
